a "REAL" Mommy

Sadly, the other night I broke my glasses. Yep, snapped them right in half. I thought I had fixed them, but when I was cleaning them this morning they broke again. So I put on an old pair, which are a replacement from some that broke a few years ago, (I am NOT rough on my glasses, just unlucky!), and came out to the kitchen. It was the second time this week that Kaylee has seen me in these glasses and she was truly dismayed. She asked me if I could please get some new glasses when I get some more money. She said these ones don't look too well, (I don't disagree), and that she wanted me to look like a REAL mommy, not a pretend mommy. Apparently REAL mommies wear dark brown frames on their glasses. Hope that's not too disappointing for the rest of you! :-)

Bagel Boy

Before I was even out of bed this morning, Joel woke up and, after getting dressed in record time, stole away to the kitchen. When I was starting to wonder what had happened to him he came back and announced that he had prepared bagels for Steve and me. He was disappointed because he had hoped to serve them to us in bed but he couldn't get them out of the toaster without burning himself. (they were mini bagels) What a sweet boy!

"...The Lord will take care of you..."

Tonight at Joel's basketball practice he re-injured a muscle in his leg and it was really bothering him. Kaylee was really touched by his pain and said she wished she could do something to make him feel better. She soon determined to ease his pain with a picture. After awhile she emerged from her bedroom with a precious, handwritten message for her big brother. "O Joel," she wrote in her emerging manuscript and spelling, "the Lord will take care of you. Love, Kaylee" Could it have been said any better? Her words of encouragement touched my heart.

"Not Dead Yet"

Well, I have no clever stories to share, but wanted to assure those concerned (trillions of you, I suppose) that I'm not dead yet. Life is speedily moving along and I am hoping to "be a better blogger." (Say that ten times fast!) I've been inspired to share the cute little things that my kids say even if I don't have pictures to accompany them. We'll see what comes of this new resoultion. :-)

Election Day 2008

Happy Election Day! It has been fun to have the kids aware of and interested in this year's Presidential Election. I think that Joel and Kaylee will each remember it. I know that I will. Such an historic election! I just could not pass up the opportunity to celebrate!

Steve and I got these three miniature Beanie Babies eight years ago as part of a McDonald's Happy Meals promotion. We thought they might be worth some money one day, and have saved them these many years. Today, however, seems an appropriate day to give them away to our kids, to help commemorate this historic day. The donkey is named "Lefty," the elephant "Righty," and the bear is "Libearty."
