Three weeks ago our clothes dryer died. It was only twelve years old, but for a month or so things haven't seemed quite right. It was making some noises, was somewhat inefficient, then it finally gave up the ghost. For about a week we were in shock - I've heard grief can do that to a person - then on a Friday we finally made a call to a repairman. We scheduled for him to come on a Tuesday. He determined what was wrong, told us how to prevent the problem in the future, and told us the necessary part would arrive in about three days. When he came back to install it he realized that another part also needed to be replaced and that would also need to be ordered. Finally, about 17 days into this inconvenience our dryer has a new life! Two good things came of this. 1) I discovered that I enjoy line-drying our laundry, and 2) our energy bill was lower this month due to lack of dryer usage and will continue to be lower due to our increased efficiency.
Another appliance problem has to do with our dishwasher. Tuesday morning we woke up to a puddle on the floor in the kitchen. No, wait. A puddle on the laminate floor in the kitchen. You know, the kind that's really not supposed to get wet? Yeah, that stuff. Anyway, we discovered too, that it had not cleaned any of the dishes, so Steve mentioned that I should run it again when I can supervise it to make sure nothing funny happened. Well, no more than 10 minutes into the cycle I walked outside onto the back porch, and this video will show you what I saw. Yes. Water leaking out of the house (in four places). We have since removed the dishwasher from its spot in the kitchen and are using an industrial strength fan from our garage to try and dry out the subflooring under the counter.
All day today I worked really hard to get the laundry caught up. I made good progress on that, but I had also planned to clean up the kitchen from Tuesday and Wednesday's dishes. I didn't get to it until 10:12 pm tonight. It was an overwhelming task, but the perfect example of ugly and scary!

Wow, what a series of unfortunate events! I love the idea of drying clothes outside. I'm glad your dryer will live to see another day, but so sorry about your dishwasher.
I'm so sorry! Please tell me that you will go and buy a pack of cheap paper plates to preserve your sanity. :)
I am sorry to hear about the combined mishaps....we had a dryer go out a month or so ago too and it is the pits....Didnt have option of hanging clothes in backyard so we headed for the laudromat. Hopefully now you can get the dishwasher situation fixed. Hope you and your family have a great week!
